Platelets are cell fragments, small cytoplasmic pieces formed by the lysis of megakaryocytes. Platelets originate from cytoplasmic fragments of megakaryocytes, which, in turn, differentiate from hematopoietic stem cells.
Currently, clinical platelets are primarily obtained from whole blood donated by voluntary donors. However, the shortage of blood donors and short storage periods limit platelet supply. There is a global issue of varying degrees of "platelet shortage," and the development of artificial platelets is currently the only solution. The artificial platelets developed by the company are expected to become an important platelet substitute in China.
